Mission Statement

The primary mission of Parents and Children Together (PACT) is to conduct research that promotes child, youth and family well-being and healthy development in racially, ethnically, and economically diverse communities in and around Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Many PACT-affiliated projects engage the community in the research process at all levels by utilizing Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) or Community Engaged (CE) approaches (Andrews et al, 2010).

Community engagement is viewed as a promising approach to reduce health disparities, improve the health of our communities, and improve the lives of families and children. CBPR/CE engages multiple stakeholders, including community-based organizations, community members and researchers allowing for team-building, sharing resources and mutually exchanging ideas and expertise.  This way, CBPR exemplifies the kind of local voice, involvement, and action that can ignite innovative approaches and lead to sustainable long-term outcomes (Horowitz, 2009).
