Dawn WitherspoonMayra Bámaca, and Stephen Matthews were awarded an innovation grant from the National Council on Family Relations to examine how place and neighborhoods matter for Latino families, with a focus on parental monitoring and youth problem behavior. Witherspoon and Bámaca will partner with Gloria Merrick and the Harrisburg Latino Hispanic American Community Center (LHACC) to recruit 100 families. The Places/Lugares project aligns with LHACC's mission to "empower, promote, and advocate" for Latino families in Harrisburg. Merrick says, "Together we have built a well-functioning community university partnership to address an important community need - understanding how culture and place affect Latino parenting and Latino youth's problem behavior".
