Mayra Bámaca, Ph.D.

Associate Professor, Human Development and Family Studies

Dr. Bamaca’s research focuses on individual and contextual factors that are linked to the wellbeing and adaptation of immigrant youth and their families, with an emphasis on Latinos. She has been collaborating with Dr. Witherspoon on projects where they are learning about experiences of Latinos and African American families with teenagers residing in Harrisburg, PA. In collaboration with community partners, including LHACC and Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, they have interviewed adolescents and parents about their experiences within neighborhoods, families, and schools and have looked at how these experiences are associated with academic achievement, mental health, and behavior.
