Dauphin County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in court. Since 2018, CASA volunteers have served as the eyes and ears of the court, ensuring that each child receives the care and support that they need. Volunteers also ensure that the judges have all the information needed to make the best possible decision for the child.

Will Foster, Executive Director of CASA, joined the program in July 2022. In just two years, the program has experienced rapid growth, tripling its volunteer base. The next training class already has over 11 future advocates signed up, bringing CASA closer to its goal of 50 volunteers—a major milestone for a young organization. More volunteers means more children receiving the help they deserve.

When asked what the community should know about CASA, Will stressed that CASA is not a typical nonprofit. Because of the program’s role, CASA relies heavily on grants and donations to keep the lights on and the volunteers supported.

In the future, CASA plans to expand its reach to support the near 400 children in Dauphin County foster care. To do that, CASA needs strategic partners, community connectors, donations, and event attendees. And, of course, more volunteers. Right now, CASA is only able to serve about 10% of the youth who need them.
