September 2024 Spotlight: Toni Lynn Mark, The Salvation Army (Capital City Region)
For over 168 years, The Salvation Army has been a cornerstone of support in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, and Eastern Cumberland County. Last year alone, the organization served over 55,000 people, providing essential services that meet basic needs and promote self-sufficiency.
Toni Lynn Mark, Resource Development Director for the Capital City Region, highlighted the organization’s dedicated teams:
- Family Services offers budgeting assistance, financial mentoring, case management, clothing, and back-to-school supplies.
- Community Health & Nutrition operates a choice shopping food pantry serving 2,500–3,000 people each month, provides emergency food boxes, and runs mental and physical health workshops.
- Senior Programs focus on companionship through field trips, book clubs, Zumba, and workshops.
- Youth Programs include three after-school and summer programs centered on STEM, literacy, cooking, and anti-violence education, along with parent workshops for non-English-speaking families.
The Salvation Army also offers Sunday services, spiritual counseling, and free Bibles through its onsite chapel. During the holidays, its Christmas assistance program supports over 5,000 children through the adopt-a-child gift program and red kettle campaign.
Committed to strengthening the community, The Salvation Army collaborates with local partners to maximize resources and welcomes volunteers to support its mission.
